Green Machine Leads It.

DANA POINT -(CA)- The fifth annual Dana Point Grand Prix of Cycling hit the finish Sunday with Brad Huff of Springfield, Mo., winning the men’s professional division, capping a day of races and things to do for all ages, skill levels and experience.

As many as 10,000 people attended the event throughout the day, which included food, giveaways, BMX demonstrations and product booths by cycling manufacturers. It was part of USA Cycling‘s National Racing Calendar, a series of pro/am races throughout the United States.

These ladies had a need for speed.

The closed L-shaped course, almost a mile long with six tight corners, ran through Dana Point’s Town Center and Santa Clara neighborhood. A field of about 120 riders competed in the men’s pro division for a purse of $15,000 among the top 20 places.

Here they come.

Pro cyclist Miles Lamon, 25, of San Luis Obispo averaged more than 27 mph, with a top speed of 36 mph, in finishing midpack. “This is a really fun race, well-organized … and it’s fast,” Lamon said. “It’s really cool that so many people come to see it and you can feel the support. All the people really get everyone going and make the riders go fast.”
